Our Local Area
Over 200,000 people live, work and play in the Greater Killeen area, located in the high-technology corridor that runs from Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin/San Antonio.

Named for the famous Confederate, John Bell Hood, Fort Hood is the largest armored military installation in the free world, covering 339 square miles. It is an "open base", allowing visitors to drive through and view over 1,000 acres of military equipment on display.

The four-mile drive down "Motor Pool road" is an impressive array of every kind of military vehicle imaginable. From grandparents to grandchildren, all ages enjoy this entertaining and educational excursion.

Fort Hood is in the forefront of the modernization of the U.S. Army. Many new equipment items have been introduced to the field of Fort Hood, including the Apache Attack Helicopter.

Also located on Fort Hood are two interesting military museums, the First Cavalry Division and the Second Armored Division Museum, each with a museum gift store. Admission is free to both museums.
